In October 2002 a group of spiritual seekers from Russia, Ukraine and Lithuania known as the School for Inner States, founded the Institute for the Cultivation of Inner States. The Institute, which has been engaged in studying inner states, sees its aim in developing practical methods of modeling higher states of being, stabilizing the achieved results in the conditions of people’s everyday activities, as well as exploring new forms of interpretations of reality which correspond to the achieved higher levels of being.
Every sensitive person is familiar with the multitude of inherent inner states and distinguishes them as being respectively positive, negative and neutral; high and low; standard, basic, border-line and "alien". This kind of person acquiesces the autonomous character of his individual thinking and feeling and the distinction of his inner space from those of other people and from the outer space of objects and events, and defines this space by the following words "I", "psyche", "soul", "inner world", "self", "Dasein".
The Russian word "sostoyaniye" has no suitable match in English language, though it has close equivalents in several other languages, such as Zustand (German), makam (Arabic), стан (Ukrainian), etc. In English and in French we can find some equivalents (condition, state, wealth - English, état, position, situation, état d'âme, être en état, être en mesure – French), however they all miss the focal idea clearly articulated in Russian. Whereas Gurdjieff's concept of "being" as opposed to "knowledge" stresses the objective aspect of the level of one's development, "sostoyániye" characterizes the psychological aspect of the same idea, depicting the state of the psyche (soul, heart) as a whole and not just as "the state of consciousness". Here the word "sostoyaniye" is being translated as "inner state" which is only one aspect of the rich content of this Russian term.
The quality of "sostoyaniye" depends on the level of a human being’s spiritual realization, at the degree of his approximation to his profound I, to reality and God. On the other hand, "sostoyaniye" is a fundamental characteristic feature of the reality of the outer objects and events. Solemn and profound inner states, which create the content of true religious and mystical art, reveal the resonance and even the identity of inner and outer realities, and at the heights of spiritual experience mystics encounter the unity (non-duality) of the world.
We learn about the profound "sostoyaniye" from all religious traditions. The achievement of higher inner states also lies at the foundation of culture and art, comprising their invisible core, meaning and goal. There is no more important duty that human beings have than the elevation of their inner states. By making the cultivation of inner states as its main concern, ICIS determines its profound connection with the traditional religious systems, as well as their culture and arts.
The Institute's main goals are: a) strengthening the instances, which stimulate one's positive shift within the scale of inner states under the conditions of ordinary, every-day activities; b) revealing and examining the inert structures, which hinder the positive shift on the scale of inner states. The means for achieving these goals is to adjust one’s system of values and to shift one’s gear from the sphere of the standard basic states of being into the domain of positive, borderline and "alien" inner states.
A great amount of attention in the work of the Institute is given to studying different spiritual practices in various Eastern and Western traditions and the major religions and cultures of the world, including Russian and European cultures: literature, philosophy, theology, music, choreography, the visual arts, etc. Creative usage is made of the achievements of the major schools of psychotherapy – gestalt, TOP, psychodrama, logotherapy and transpersonal psychology.
The work on cultivating inner states and on the improvement of the quality of existence provides us with an important though seldom used resource of psychological stability. It builds up a positive disposition and a high sense of motivation and productivity and manifests itself in the cultural, political and economic spheres. Unfortunately, people are rarely capable of utilizing this resource and of making it stable and productive. Ignoring this most important factor produces a critical condition, to which the major world traditions have pointed our attention, as has been expressed in such assertions as "humanity is in a detrimental state", "suffering (dukha) is omnipresent", "the world lies in sin", "humanity is asleep", "that which human beings thoughtlessly call life is worse than death”, hence, “the aim of existence is resurrection from the dead," etc.
The Institute for the Cultivation of Inner States offers a unique methodology for evoking higher inner states and stabilizing them in ourselves. The activities of ICIS are based on ideas and spiritual practices of the major religious and mystical traditions and on exploring the ethical and philosophical systems of the East and the West.
The Institute offers its services to a broad range of people interested in engaging in intensive work on perfecting the quality of their inner states, and in acquiring the credentials of instructors in special courses and practices, which stimulate the development of the higher inner states.

Институт Культуры Состояний проводит двухнедельный Гурджиевский семинар в Грузии. Тема семинара: «Спонтанность и тотальность». Даты проведения: 23 июня - 8 июля 2012 года. Среди множества духовных искателей есть лишь единицы таких, кто не стремится бездумно идти чужой колеей. Работа требует методичности и живости, бескомпромиссности и легкости, каждый человек открывает ее для себя абсолютно заново. Нет простых рецептов работы, и потому нам надлежит быть внимательными к себе, остерегаясь повторяемых ритуалов и догм. Невозможно зафиксировать истину, можно лишь указать на нее. Истина настолько больше любых слов, насколько великая тайна жизни больше наклеенного на нее ярлыка. Эту тайну нужно принять целиком и сразу, окунуться в нее одним движением.

Ровнера, вышедшем в Москве, мне приходилось писать в «Новом Журнале», № 242. Теперь он издал воспоминания. Книга замечательная, и не потому, что я знаю автора очень давно. Это воспоминания о нашем общем времени. Наконец, вот мой портрет: интересно посмотреть, что он во мне увидел – несомненно, доброжелательным взглядом, не принимая в то же время некоторых моих поступков. Эта свобода автора не может не импонировать.

 Мы прибыли на семинар в Нор-Амберд 02 июля, в то время как он шел уже с 28 июня- т.е. на 5 день- и сразу же утром отправились в Гюмри на экскурсию.

По Армении начинаешь скучать уже на второй день после возвращения в Москву. За 2 недели я успел прирасти к этой стране так, как если бы счастливо прожил в ней минимум полгода.
